Driving habits that lead to danger on the road

Most drivers in Colorado can easily identify other motorists on the road who practice dangerous driving habits. Whether these habits are due to lack of training, experience or something else, these drivers present a danger to the occupants of vehicles sharing the road with them.

Speeding

Driving over the speed limit is a common mistake with potentially drastic consequences. This bad habit is especially dangerous when done in a school zone or other area frequented by pedestrians. Drivers should not view posted speed limits as mere suggestions.

Talking on the phone

Cellphones are great tools for keeping in touch, but it is not a good idea to use them while operating a motor vehicle. It is not easy to talk on the phone and pay proper attention to the road. Drivers who must take a call while driving should make sure they use a hands-free option at the very least.

Driving and eating

Having a quick bite to eat while driving may not seem like such a bad idea for a busy person with thoughts of multitasking. However, drivers should pay full attention to the road while a car is in motion. The necessary attention may not be possible while trying to consume a meal.

Slow driving

Traveling at speeds well below the speed limit can be as dangerous as driving too fast. This habit occurs with some drivers who take to a highway while driving at a speed more suitable for residential areas. Drivers should always know the speed limit for the road on which they travel so that they can adjust their driving speed accordingly.

Drivers who demonstrate dangerous habits behind the wheel consistently are more likely to become involved in auto accidents. Individuals injured in an auto accident often miss valuable time from work while recovering from injury. A personal injury attorney may be able to help an accident victim concerned with compensation for their injuries.
