Plan Carefully for Trick-Or-Treating

October is right around the corner, which means that people are going to start making plans for Halloween. When you are planning your outing with your children, you need to be sure that you are keeping safety in mind. Even though there are going to be plenty of people out for trick-or-treating, some drivers might not give pedestrians the attention and courtesy they deserve.

Before you leave the house, plan your route. Try to avoid crossing the street unless absolutely necessary. When you do have to cross, do so at intersections or crosswalks. The less time you spend on the road, the less chance there is that you will be struck by a driver who isn’t paying attention.

It is a good idea to make sure that you and your children double check the road before you cross. Most trick-or-treating hours happen after dark, which means that drivers might claim they didn’t see you. Putting reflective tape on all costumes and carrying a flashlight might also help increase safety.

While being struck by a car while trick-or-treating isn’t anything that a person hopes may happen, it is certainly possible. If it does occur, you need to be sure that whoever was struck gets medical attention. This can help find any injuries that might be present.

Ultimately, you might decide to seek compensation from the driver of the vehicle. This can help you recover the money you had to spend on medical expenses and other related costs from the pedestrian accident, such as lost wages.
